8 insights into hiring Mexican tech talent from Bridge

So, let’s get started with interviewing.

What is special about the Mexican IT industry in general? What economical factors drive its development?

The Mexican economy is pretty stable. We have no political shakes, but only stable economic growth instead. One of the most interesting facts about the Mexican economy in general, and the IT sector in particular, is that outsourcing was prohibited in Mexico in 2021. It means that foreign companies can hire Mexican software developers as their own full-time employees only. To calculate the cost of hiring full-time developers in Mexico, including taxes, I suggest using a salary-based tax calculator.

Tech Industry in Mexico – Is This Destination Right For Your Project Outsourcing

Why should companies choose software development in Mexico? Is Mexico a smart choice?

Mexico is indeed a smart choice. Just imagine – Indian companies frequently hire Mexican developers and then source them for their US-based customers. The reason is simple – the US customers would like to stay in frequent touch with their development team but a significant time zone difference with India makes it difficult. From this perspective, Mexico becomes a smarter and more promising choice, plus Indian companies can also be sure of the exceptional quality of the Mexican talent they source.

However, India isn’t the only country that leverages Mexican tech talent. US-based companies also choose it frequently, taking advantage of business hours overlap and exceptional quality of Mexican tech talent pool.

Name five reasons to work with Mexican developers.

Well, let me think. At first, Mexican developers are well-educated since the educational system in Mexico is evolving and becoming more affordable. They are also responsible and hard-working. In addition, hiring tech talent in Mexico is cost-effective and convenient because of the cultural and physical proximity to the US.

Why then, despite the vast amount of IT professionals and the quality of the services they deliver, Mexican software development services are budget-friendly?

They are quite budget-friendly for US customers and when compared with the US programmers’ salaries. If you compare the average wage of a Mexican developer with a programmer from Ukraine, you will get approximately the same figure – $2000 per month. Senior developers, in turn, make up to $5000. For comparison, the salary range of US developers is $7000 to $10000 depending on their seniority level.

And the reason for the salary gap is pretty trivial – there is a significant difference between American and Mexican economic development levels.

How Much Does It Cost to Hire Software Developers in Mexico

What expectations do Mexican developers have? What is important for them when they choose a new project?

Most Mexican developers have two common expectations. They would like to contribute to an interesting project using relevant and modern technologies and get well-paid for it. Some of them also would be happy to relocate to the US and join the client’s in-house team.

What cultural features do Mexican developers have? What are the specifics of the business culture in Mexico in general?

As said, Mexican developers are very hardworking. This is the thing US clients appreciate most. In Mexico, we have only 12 paid vacation days per year, so foreign businesses hiring Mexican developers can be sure that their development process will run non-stop. In addition, our programmers are responsible and open to communication. Given their high English proficiency level, there will be no communication issues, as well as delays thanks to the convenient time zone overlap.

While the IT talent shortage is a global issue, do you personally feel it when hiring tech specialists in Mexico? How do you handle it?

I agree that there is a tech talent shortage globally but I can’t say I feel it. The matter is that our talent sourcing process is heavily automated, and it allows us to find suitable candidates not only locally but also globally, and accurately tailor the customers’ requirements to the search criteria. Plus, the Mexican tech talent pool is pretty large, so you won’t face either shortage or any other stumbling blocks.

In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge in your job?

As always, the biggest challenge is meeting customers’ requirements. But when it comes to hiring tech talent, sometimes customers themselves find it difficult to identify what talent they need, what their perfect candidate looks like, how many specialists they have to hire, and so on. Aligning the visions and clarifying the requirements becomes the biggest stumbling block in this case.

Final words
